WHAT IS LEGAL?

After you spend thousands of dollars on equipment for your paint shop, you want to put it to good use making that investment back. What would you do if, after spending all of that money, your fire inspector came in and red tagged your shop?

IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY!

In making these decisions, fire inspectors generally rely on NFPA 33 and NFPA 91. These two codes establish guidelines for the design and construction of a spray area. Some of the major items to consider when designing a spray area are:

  • Proper class of lighting
  • Proper ventilation
  • Proper class of wiring
  • Proper construction of walls

Most prep stations fail to meet most if not all of these considerations. They were not designed with painting in mind at all. The few that are designed for any painting are only legal for 9 square feet or less, and only then by exhausting 100% of the air. By exhausting 100%, you lose the “air curtain” effect that is so important for clean painting.

To solve this problem, ABS Air Systems designed its work station to remove the flammable vapors so efficiently that it can meet the 9 square foot code with 85% recirculation, 15% Exhaust. To prove this and to set fire inspectors minds at ease, we had the equipment tested by ETL for adherence to NFPA 91 and NFPA 33, and they classified the equipment as meeting the code while recirculating 85% of the air. exhausting only 15%.

ABS AIR SYSTEMS WORK STATIONS ARE THE ONLY ONES WITH OUR CLASSIFICATION.

This solves the needs of many shops. Those shops with a paint booth can do the big jobs in the booth, and the small ones on the ABS work station. But what happens if you do more volume than your booth can handle. Do you over-paint on the work station and hope you don’t get caught? And every inspector KNOWS that if you don’t have a booth, you will be painting whole cars on the work station.

The solution to this problem is the ABS ARVS Paint Station. ETL testing confirms that this equipment, when properly installed, will meet the code requirement for painting entire vehicles. This means you can paint without a booth legally, and you can do it for a fraction of the cost!

No on else can make these claims about an open work station. So before you waste money buying equipment you may never be allowed to use, call us for a no obligation design consultation.

It is important to remember that regardless of the certifications and approvals, the local inspector has the final say. That is why it is important to have someone in your corner with the experience dealing with these issues. That way your improvement project will go more smoothly, and you will be making the kind of profits you deserve.
